Ella Marie (Luebben) Tungland was born on April 28, 1920, on the family farm in Rost Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Emma Luebben.  As a child Ella attended the Rost Parochial School as well as a number of Jackson County Country Schools.  Ella was united in marriage to Milo Tungland on December 11, 1947 at the St. Peter Lutheran Parsonage by Pastor Fred Kolander.

Edith Brakke Nesseth Buhler was born in Delafield Township, Jackson County to Christina and Gustav Brakke on April 30, 1918.  She died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, Minnesota on June 29, 2009 at the age of 91.

Edith was a lifelong resident of Jackson County residing on the family farm that was deeded by President Grant in 1871.  The Brakke-Nesseth farm was designated a Century Farm in 1971.  She moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Lakefield in December, 2005.  When she needed more care, she moved to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in October 2007.  Edith attended country school in Delafield Township and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1936. She graduated from cosmetology school in Omaha, Nebraska in 1937.  She operated the Mirror Beauty Shop in Windom for several years, and moved the business to her farm home in 1950.

Edith married Arvid Nesseth on July 6, 1944.  Their children include Janet, Elaine, Jim & Larry.  Arvid died in 1970.  Edith married Russ Buhler on November 11, 1984.

Edith was fondly known as the “Queen of Highway 86” as she traveled to many church, school, and community events.  Edith was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Jackson County Historical Society, Delafield Diggers 4-H club, Extension Homemaker’s Group, Lakeshore Saddle Club, Sewing Club, Garden Club, Eastern Star,

American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, as well as the Delafield Cemetery Association.  She was an advocate for all agricultural organizations especially 4-H, FFA, and county fairs where she annually exhibited her baking and canning.

Edith loved to collect family history.  She spent many hours scrap booking.  She collected history and photographed the barns located in Delafield Township.  She enjoyed preparing Scandinavian treats including lefse, lutefisk, krumkake, and rosettes, sharing them with family and friends.  Edith loved to entertain and hosted many coffee and dinner parties throughout her life.

Edith especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren.  She attended most of their activities and special events.  Her surviving grandchildren include:  Anne Simonsen, Amy (Sam) DiPaola, John (Jennifer) Simonsen, Ben Elston, Sarah Elston, Megan Elston, Matt Nesseth, Andy Nesseth (Lindsay Chapman), Abby Nesseth, Tom Nesseth (Teri Landegent) Nicole (Brent) Staples, & Mike Nesseth.

She was especially happy to experience time with 5 great children---Alexander and Sophia DiPaola, Sylvia and Leo Chapman-Nesseth, & Kathryn Simonsen.

She is survived by her husband, Russ Buhler, her four children, Janet (Paul) Simonsen, Elaine (Mark) Elston, Jim (Tamera Erickson) Nesseth, & Larry (Deb) Nesseth.  Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Del Brakke; and four nieces and nephews—David Brakke, Susan Jeska, Tom Brakke, & Linda Zimmerman and their families.  Other survivors include the families of Obert and Myrna Blackstad.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arvid, an infant son, her only sibling, Willis Brakke, and her aunts and uncles Pauline Dolly, Albert & Orpha Pohlman, and Harold and Rhoda Pohlman.

Funeral services are planned for Thursday, July 2, 2009, beginning at 2:00p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastor Bob Iverson officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at the Delafield Cemetery in Jackson County.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 4-7:30p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:30, in the Fireside Room in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and on Thursday, one hour prior to the services at the church.

After marriage Ella and Milo lived on a farm southeast of Lakefield for forty-two years before moving into town in October of 1989.  After Milo’s passing on January 21, 2007 Ella continued to live at home up until she passed away at the Sanford Regional Medical Center in Worthington on June 26, 2009 at the age of 89 years, one month, and twenty-nine days.

Ella was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township.  Ella had many hobbies, enjoying quilting, embroidering, playing cards and reading.  Ella also enjoyed traveling and going to auctions, where she collected many antiques.  Family was very important to Ella, she was always worried about her children and she always managed to get the children and their families’ home for the holidays.

Ella is survived by her three children, Marcia (Mike) Stein of Olathe, Kansas; Marlene Peters of Lakefield, Minnesota; and Tim (Wendy) Tungland of Lakefield, Minnesota.  Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Jeremy (Stacy) Stein of Dunein, Florida; Teri Jo (Shane) Olean of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Eddie Lee (Brenda) Peters of Independence, Missouri; and Tami (Justin) Farmer of Lakefield, Minnesota; as well as her nine great-grandchildren, Regan, Maci, Aiven, and Kason Farmer; Kaylee Peters; Preston Stein; and Shayden, Jacob, and Allison Olean.  Ella is also survived by her sister Irene (Carl) Williams and her three sister-in-laws, Arlene (Jack) Pflepsen, Charlotte (Carmen) Olson, and Thelma Naslund.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-nine years Milo, her two brothers Herb and Loren, and one sister Bernice.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, July 1, 2009, beginning at11:00a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastor Jonathan Nack officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service at the Lakefield Memorial Park.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 5-7p.m. at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield and on Wednesday, one hour prior to the services at the church.

DALE ALLEN MAINE was born on January 18, 1970 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, the son of Raymond and Bertha (Wildeboder) Maine.  As a youth, they moved to Ortonville, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school in 1989.  He continued his education at Willmar Technical College and earned his diploma in parts merchandising in 1990.

He was united in marriage to Angela Palmer on November 17, 1990 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield.  They then moved to Mankato where he was a parts man at Chelsey’s Truck.  He then became a heavy equipment operator until he was injured.  They then had lived in Montevideo, Madison, Jackson and finally Osakis, Minnesota until 2006 when they became residents of Lakefield.  Dale passed away in Belmont Park on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the age of 39 years, 5 months and 11 days.

Dale was baptized at the Methodist Church in Ortonville and later became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield.  He loved to work with wood and enjoyed tinkering with cars.  He had just started becoming involved in fixing lawn mowers and snow blowers.  He enjoyed the outdoors and camping with family.  He was a very giving person always being there when he was needed.

Dale is survived by his wife of 18 years, Angela Maine of Lakefield, his two sons, Joseph and Dominic, both at home in Lakefield, his mother, Bertha Maine of Ortonville, Minnesota, 4 sisters, Deb Jankford of Sauk Center, Minnesota, Darcy (Al) Larson of Osakis, Minnesota, Donna (Karl) Alberts of Pierre, South Dakota and Diane (Morris) VanLith of Milbank, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Maine and a brother, David Maine.

Rodney Carol Peterson was born on August 19, 1931 in Harrison County, Iowa, to the late Harry and Mary (Barnum) Peterson.  He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Anthon, Iowa.  As a child he attended Country Schools, later graduating from Magnolia High School, Magnolia, Iowa, in 1950.

In July of 1952 Rodney enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to the Korean Conflict until being honorably discharged in July of 1954.  On August 21, 1954, Rodney married the love of his life, Florence Hilda Beuthien, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, Iowa.  Together, they resided and worked in Sioux City for a short time before moving to a farm in Correctionville, Iowa until 1958, when they moved to a farm North of Lakefield, where they still reside.  Rodney farmed the land, raised livestock, as well as working at Toro Manufacturing in Windom, where he worked for nineteen years before retiring in 1984.  Rodney passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2009 at the age of seventy-seven years, ten months, and twelve days.

Rodney enjoyed showing Saddlebred Horses, and really enjoyed riding his prize Palomino showhorse, “Temptation,” in local parades.  He also enjoyed woodworking, fixing, repairing, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.

Rodney is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Florence, and one daughter Connie (Joseph) Rossow of Milford, Iowa. Rodney is also survived by his three grandchildren; Jennifer (Corey) Haugen of Austin, Minnesota; Angela Rossow and her special friend Shayn Carlson of Rochester, Minnesota and Brandon Rossow of Milford, Iowa; and two great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include his sister Betty McAdams, of Logan, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Harriette Sowokinos, and Phyllis Peterson, and his brother Bernard Peterson.

Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 11AM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, with Pastors Jon Nack and Royce Leckband officiating.  Burial will take place immediately following the service at the Lakefield City Cemetery.

A visitation is planned for Monday, July 6, 2009 from 5-7PM at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield and on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
